Anyone familiar with the story of Heverlee will know I value the traditional. But I also value innovation and creativity, which is never too hard to find in Belgium.
This set of pencil vs camera pictures from Belgian artist Ben Heine was the latest thing to spark my imagination. Making the everyday extraordinary in a few (skilled) flicks of a pencil, Ben creatively combines traditional photography and pencil drawings to provide an unexpectedly brilliant viewpoint.
It’s not just the craftsmanship behind his photography and artwork – it’s the way he can see things in a completely different light. Through time-served, yet extremely simple, artistic mediums, he opens the door to another world in otherwise ordinary locations. Using traditional methods to create something simple yet brilliant is something I can relate to in the brewing of Heverlee beer. After all, when done well, good beer is an art form.
