Our story
A hidden gem once lost and forgotten
There is a weird and wonderful background to our beer. Once lost and forgotten - it was found, in a corner of Leuven, Belgium by the Master Brewer, Joris Brams. He discovered a recipe remarkably similar to modern lager within the pages of Abbey of the Order of Premontre records. This recipe inspired what would become Heverlee’s pilsner style lager. This hidden gem was revitalised and brought to the UK in 2013.
Our Story
Our curious fox
Created by Belgian artist, Dzia in 2019, the fox is Heverlee’s mascot of curiosity. A wild animal who has adapted to life in an urban setting. A symbol of Heverlee’s adventurous spirit and desire for discovery.
Dzia’s inspiration for the design is said to be rooted in the nature and wildlife surrounding the Heverlee abbey, with animals being a focal point of his work to date. The design nods back to our Belgian roots, but also represents our current direction. As we champion the edge of culture in the form of street art and music. Our fox is a sign post to those curious in pursuit of something different and new.
Heverlee today…
As a brand we are still committed to reinvesting back into our Belgian heritage. Today every pint sold supports the restoration of the Abbey of the Order of Premontre and the surrounding farming area, in which they are currently working towards achieving UNESCO world heritage site status. The investment into the abbey also includes an on-site micro brewery where a host of small batch brews are constantly being developed. In the future our Heverlee team aim to use this to collaborate and fuel innovation and creativity in the brewing process with the potential of new product development.
